in concert on Bannerman's Island
Opera Company of the Highlands, founded by renowned opera singer and artistic director emerita Claudia Cummings is pleased to announce a collaboration with the Bannerman's Island Trust to produce a concert version of Jerome Kern's
Show Boat. Performances on the island will include a round-trip boat ride and tour of the island. These performances will take place July 7th and 8th on Bannerman's Island and on July 15, 2012 at the Ritz Theater in Newburgh, New York.
Our conductor and music director for this production is the acclaimed artistic director of the Liederkranz Opera, Maestra Elizabeth Hastings. Our cast includes returning company favorites, soprano Shira Renee Thomas, as Magnolia, soprano Vira Slywotzky, as Julie and baritone Matthew Singer, as Gaylord Ravenal. The company is pleased to introduce mezzo soprano Chantelle Grant, in the role of Queenie. Returning as our narrator is local radio personality John Moultrie. Our soloists will be joined by the Opera Company of the Highlands Chorus, with musical assistance from Ryan Kennedy.
We are honored to have this talented cast of singers and musicians in collaboration and to be able to bring this production, for the first time, to Bannerman's Island.
